Sunday Ratings: ABC and CBS Split Dominance; Return of ‘D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow’ Left at The CW Starting Gate

Sunday 5/02/21 Preliminary Ratings
Total Viewers:
CBS: 6.12 million, ABC: 4.73, NBC: 1.48, Fox: 757,000, CW: 408,000
Adults 18-49:
ABC: 0.6 rating/4 share, CBS: 0.5/ 4, NBC and Fox: 0.3/ 2 each, CW: 0.1/ 1
CBS granddaddy “60 Minutes” clocked in as the most-watched show on this first Sunday in May, with 7.27 million viewers at 7 p.m. ET. And that worked well for freshman lead-out “The Equalizer”, which won the 8 p.m. hour in total viewers (6.97 million) with a 0.6 rating/4 share in adults 18-49 (#2). In today’s diluted network environment, “The Equalizer” is a rare freshman positive.
Also on the Eye net was “NCIS: Los Angeles” (Viewers: #1, 548 million; A18-49: #2, 0.6/ 4) and soon-to-conclude “NCIS: New Orleans” (Viewers: #1, 4.75 million; A18-49: #1t, 0.5/ 3) from 9-11 p.m. Coming up next season: “NCIS: Hawaii.”
On ABC, “American Idol” led the evening in adults 18-49, with a 0.7/ 5 from 8-10 p.m. (and 5.25 million viewers). And that led into crime solver “The Rookie” at 3.85 million viewers (#2t) and a 0.5/ 3 in the deo at 10 p.m. Earlier in the evening on ABC. veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” was on the fast affiliate ratings map with 4.56 million viewers (#2) and a 0.5/ 4 in adults 18-49 (#2t) at 7 p.m.
In season premiere news was “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” on The CW at a mere 456,000 million viewers and a 0.1/ 1 in adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. And that led into “Batwoman”, now Sunday at 9 p.m., with 381,000 viewers and a 0.1/ 1 in the demo. Needless to say, both finished a distant fifth in their time periods.
Over at NBC, the network remains in a state of disrepair on Sunday as a result of “Ellen’s Game of Games” (Viewers: #3, 1.77 million; A18-49: #3, 0.4/ 3), “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” (Viewers: #3, 1.24 million; A18-49: #4, 0.3/ 2) and “Good Girls” (Viewers: #3, 1.36 million; A18-49: #3, 0.3/ 2) from 8-11 p.m. Naturally, “Sunday Night Football” will come to the rescue next fall. But the Sunday line-up will have to be completely revamped for midseason.
Fox’s Sunday animation block, unfortunately, just does not resonate in the traditional Nielsen ratings. See the network averages above and keep in mind that “The Simpsons” and “The Great North” were in encore telecasts from 8-9 p.m.
