Thursday Overnights: CBS Leads Despite Airing Encores from 8-9 p.m. ET

Note: Comparisons to the year-ago evening are excluded because NBC aired the Winter Olympics.
Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped the evening in the household overnights despite opening with encore telecasts of “The Big Bang Theory” and “Young Sheldon.” Proof of the strength of “Mom” was a dominant 5.4 rating/9 share in the 9 p.m. half-hour and household growth of eight percent out of the “Young Sheldon” repeat (#1t: 5.0/ 9 at 8:30 p.m.). “Mom,” now in season six, was recently renewed for two additional seasons. Recently introduced lead-out “Fam,” however, dipped to a 3.8/ 7 (#1) at 9:30 p.m., which was a loss out of “Mom” of 31 percent.
CBS remained in the overnight winners circle at 10 p.m. care of sophomore “S.W.A.T.” (4.0/ 8), which bested competing “Law & Order: SVU” on NBC (#2: 3.0/ 6) and “How to Get Away With Murder” on ABC (#3: 2.1/ 4) by 33 percent and 90 percent, respectively.
Earlier in the evening on ABC were typical overnight levels for veteran “Grey’s Anatomy” (#2: 5.1/ 9 at 8 p.m.) and recently relocated “A Million Little Things” (#2: 3.9/ 7 at 9 p.m.). NBC also had nothing unusual to report with its 8-10 p.m. combination of “The Titan Games” (#3: 2.8/ 5) and sitcoms “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4: 1.7/ 3) and “Will & Grace” (#3t: 2.8/ 4). The network would be wise to flip the time periods for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Will & Grace.”
Elsewhere, Fox featured the final season of “Gotham” (#4: 1.9. 3 at 8 p.m.) and sophomore “The Orville” (#3: 2.3/ 4 at 9 p.m.). And The CW was in repeats.

Nickelodeon to Revive ‘Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader’

John Cena has been tapped as host for an updated version of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” The game show debuted on Fox in 2007 with comedian Jeff Foxworthy as the host and ran through 2009. A syndicated half-hour daily version ran from 2009 to 2011. It also had a brief revival in 2015. 
From Wipekedia: Each game is played by a single contestant who earns money incrementally based on a payout ladder by answering simple trivia questions, with the game themed as a school quiz. The game relies on the premise that an adult would not know the information generally taught in elementary grade school, because it is rarely used in adult life by the type of person chosen to be a contestant. Therefore, “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” is essentially a test to see how much an adult has retained since graduating elementary school.
The show also derives its humor by occasionally displaying the contestant’s educational attainment, implying that in spite of that, they struggle to answer some questions.

Wednesday Overnights: ‘The Masked Singer’ Boosts Fox

Ratings Breakdown:
NBC and Fox continue to own the bragging rights to Wednesday. The Peacock net’s trio of Chicago-set dramas – “Chicago Med” (#1 for the night: 5.6 rating/10 share), “Chicago Fire” (5.5/ 9 at 9 p.m.) and “Chicago PD” (5.0/10 at 10 p.m.) – fluctuated by only six-tenths of a household rating point, winning five of the six half-hours in the household overnights. And Fox breakout “The Masked Singer” scored a healthy 5.4/10 at 9 p.m., building by a hefty 116 percent from “Gordon Ramsay’s 48 Hours to Hell and Back” (2.5/ 4) in the 8 p.m. hour.
In season finale news, “Big Brother” Celebrity Edition” averaged a modest 2.7/ 5 in the household overnights from 9-11 p.m., which was 31 percent below lead-in “The World’s Best” (#2: 3.9/ 7 from 8-9 p.m.). One year earlier, “Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” was notably stronger at a 3.6/ 6 in the 8 p.m. hour. Comparably, that put’s “The World’s Best” on par with “Big Brother.”
Elsewhere, ABC featured original and repeat installments of its two-hour Wednesday sitcom block into 10 p.m. time period filler “The Match Game” (#3: 1.9/ 4). And The CW was in repeats.

BYUtv Greenlights Season Two of ‘Dwight in Shining Armor’

Family-themed BYUtv has ordered a second season of its original scripted adventure comedy series, “Dwight In Shining Armor” before its official debut. The half-hour series takes place in a suburban town where Dwight (Sloan Morgan Siegel), a 21st century teen, falls into an ancient, underground chamber and lands lip-to-lip with Gretta (Caitlin Carmichael), a gothic princess who has been magically sleeping for a thousand years. Dwight’s “kiss” awakens Gretta, her court magician, Baldric (Joel McCrary), as well as scores of medieval villains, and makes Dwight her de facto champion until her hordes of enemies are defeated.
Season one of “Dwight in Shining Armor” will premiere on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
“We are so pleased with what we have seen of the first season and are confident it will resonate with the families who watch it,” said Michael Dunn, managing director of BYUtv. “It is without hesitation that we greenlight a second season of ‘Dwight in Shining Armor,’ and we look forward to revealing the new adventures in store for these characters.
