Sunday Final Ratings: 20-Year High for an Opening Week CBS NFL Singleheader; NFL on Fox Also Sees Week 1 Gains

On a Sunday that featured matchups as Houston-New England, Buffalo-Baltimore, Pittsburgh-Cleveland, Cincinnati-Indianapolis and Kansas City-L.A. Chargers, CBS Sports’ Week 1 viewership for its NFL game coverage on Sunday, Sept. 9 is CBS’ most-watched opening NFL singleheader in 20 years (1998).
THE NFL ON CBS’ Week 1 singleheader window is up +29 percent with an average of 17.1 million viewers according to Nielsen’s Live + Same Day fast national ratings compared to 13.3 million last year.

Fox Sports’ NFL Sunday coverage also saw gains from last year, based on metered market data: +5 percent for regional games (8.8 vs. 8.4) and +1 percent for the late Sunday afternoon window (15.7 vs. 15.6) that featured the Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers.
