Soft Start for ‘Twin Peaks’ Revival on Showtime

Showtime’s much ballyhooed revival of serialized David Lynch drama “Twin Peaks” fell flat in the traditional ratings. The two-hour opener kicked-off with just 506,000 viewers and a 0.2 rating in adults 18-49 on Sunday, May 21 from 9:02-10:54 p.m. ET. Comparably, 36 million viewers tuned into the pilot of the original “Twin Peaks” on ABC on April 8, 1990. But Showtime said that episodes three and four of the new “Twin Peaks” available online Sunday after the premiere, experienced the biggest day of weekend signups to its streaming service, Showtime Anytime and Showtime On Demand.
The “Twin Peaks” debut also resonated on social media, with 4.7 million total impressions on Twitter.
Based on two telecasts of the “Twin Peaks” opener, the total viewer base rose to 626,000, with streaming and On Demand at 450,000. This Sunday, Showtime will air episodes three and four before shifting to one episode per week for the rest of the installment’s run.
