Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led the household overnights on this final Sunday of the traditional TV season, besting No. 2 ABC by two-tenths of a rating point (or four percent). But the home of “The Billboard Music Awards,” ABC, will top the night in adults 18-49 and all the key young adult demographics. “The Billboard Music Awards” averaged a 5.4 rating/9 share from 8-11 p.m., which was 12 percent below the 6.1/10 in the household overnights on the year-ago evening. Comparably, that 6.1 overnight household rating translated into 9.76 million viewers and a 3.2 rating/10 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data.
Earlier in the evening on ABC was the season-finale of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a third-place 2.8/ 6 at 7 p.m.
On CBS, two episodes of veteran “60 Minutes” (7 p.m. – #1: 6.1/12 at 7 p.m.; #1: 5.5/10 at 8 p.m.) led into the season-finale episodes of “Madam Secretary” (#2: 5.3/ 9 at 9 p.m.) and “Elementary” (#2: 3.0/ 5 at 10 p.m.). “Elementary” will return in 2017-18 in midseason.
Elsewhere, two episodes of NBC’s “Dateline” (7 p.m. – #2: 3.2/ 6 at 7 p.m.; #3: 3.7/ 6 at 8 p.m.) led into two episodes of “Shades of Blue” (including the season finale), as follows:
